The new capillary-pressure model is applied to evaluate sealing capacity of seals, calculate transition zone thickness and saturation above free water level in reservoirs. Good results are achieved through integration of well log data, production data, core, and geological concepts. In 1960, Thomeer 2 proposed a relationship between capillary pressure and mercury saturation empirically: Equation 3. where pe is the entry capillary pressure of the rock sample, SHg is the mercury saturation, SHg8 is the mercury saturation at an infinite capillary pressure, and Fg is the pore geometrical factor. The Thomeer hyperbolas so determined are converted to capillary pressure curves. Continuous capillary pressure (P c ) curves of subsurface rock formations adjacent wells are determined based on A set of sixty four Mercury Injection Capillary Pressure curves from a Middle East tight carbonate reservoir were modelled with Thomeer hyperboles and grouped using K-medoids clustering. Thomeer J. H. M., Introduction of a pore geometrical factor defined by the capillary pressure curve, J Petrol Technol 1960, 12, 73–77.

The primary motivation for my work is to “close the loop” on relating mercury injection capillary pressure data and the simplified “bundle of tubes” permeability power law model by Brook and Corey, and is extended to incorporate the permeability model proposed by Huet-Blsingame [3] using the theory of Purcell [4] and Burdine [5], combined with the function fitting parameters of Brooks DOI: 10.2118/105139-MS Corpus ID: 140667487. The Thomeer Analysis is a method to evalute mercury injection capillary pressure (MICP) data. The resulting fitting parameters (displacement pressure, pore geometric factor, Bulk volume occupied at infinitive pressure) can be used to characterize the pore structure and to build a saturation model. The results are mixed: sometimes it works well, and sometimes it does not. Thomeer model.

With this methodology, capillary pressure will cover a larger volume of the reservoir than the volume covered by the SCAL. The Brooks-Corey capillary pressure model has been accepted widely in the petroleum and other industries.

Chapter 6 Hence, when it comes to building reservoir models and estimating volumes in-place, capillary pressure based saturation-height models are used to de- scribe Sw. For unconventional reservoirs, even if capillary pressures are not controlling Sw, saturation-height modelling provides a means to describe Sw variations in reservoirs using property variations. predict permeability.
With the method proposed by this study, synthetic capillary pressure curves can be obtained and applied to petroleum exploration and production. Our model is based on Thomeer’s (1960, 1983) model: S b S b1 ¼ e Fg=ðlog Pc=PdÞ (1) k ¼ 3:8068Fg 1:3334ð100S b1=P dÞ 2:0 (2) Where k is air permeability in millidarcy, S

The Brooks-Corey capillary pressure model has been accepted widely in the petroleum and other industries. However the Brooks-Corey model cannot represent capillary pressure curves of some rock samples such as those from The Geysers geothermal field. In fact, few existing capillary pressure models work for these rock samples. Mohamed S. El Sharawy 60 Thomeer (1983) model (Eq. 24) gives a good correlation, when using (Fg), that derived from the type curve.
